This quote struck a nerve. The quiet choreography between the sexes, and their vastly different approaches is not an abstract observation of the time, but rather an enduring one. That recognition is uncomfortable, but it's also what makes it real. Society doesn't just describe this choreography, it installs it early, in the imaginations of young girls, until resistance to it feels less like a choice and more like a flaw.
